- Conceptual Art in Canada c. 1965 to 1980 -

An exhibition jointly curated by Grant Arnold, Catherine Crowston, Michèle Thériault with Vincent Bonin, Jayne Wark, and Barbara Fischer. The exhibition is produced by the Vancouver Art Gallery, Art Gallery of Alberta, Leonard and Bina Ellen Art Gallery, Halifax, INK, and the Justina M. Barnicke Gallery. The exhibition will premiere at the four major galleries of the University of Toronto (University of Toronto Art Centre, Blackwood Gallery, Doris McCarthy Gallery, and Justina M. Barnicke Gallery) in September 2010 and tour across Canada in 2011 and 2012. Centered on the exchanges between artists, the exhibition will include a broad spectrum of practices marked by the conceptual turn (including the turn to language, performance, photo, video) in contemporary art in Canada and internationally.

*** Winter Garden ***

- The Exploration of the Micropop Imagination in Contemporary Japanese Art -

An Exhibition of a compositions by Ryoko Aoki, Tam Ochiai, Lyota Yagi,
Koki Tanaka, Hiroshi Sugito, Taro Izumi, Mahomi Kunikata, Aya Takano,
Makiko Kudo, Chim Pom, Masanori Handa, Hiroe Saeki, Masaya Chiba
and Keisuke Yamamoto.

Winter Garden was produced in 2009 under the curation of art critic Midori Matsui
as a sequel to the exhibition The Door into Summer (Art Tower Mito, Japan, 2007).
Winter Garden features 35 works—drawings, paintings, and video works — by
14 young Japanese artists active from the latter half of the 1990s throughout the first
decade of the 21st century. The artists present their distinctive views of world through
the combination of fragments, imbuing the obsolete or the commonplace with new functions
or meaning. To describe this style of expression, Matsui coined the word "Micropop".

Curated by a Tokyo-based art critic and scholar Midori Matsui.

*** BLACK et WHITE PHOTOGRAPHS ***

An Exhibition of compositions by Edward Burtynsky.

Photographs of The Gulf Oil Spill and Pentimento, black and white photographs from Shipbreaking in Bangladesh. Pentimento is a series of ten black and white Type 55 Polaroid pictures. These were made during Burtynsky’s famous project in the ship breaking yards of Bangladesh in 2000. Many of these images correspond to a colour Shipbreaking photograph and are the final study for those iconic images. These field proofs contain evidence of the Polaroid process, such as blemishes
in the emulsion and the jagged border of the negative, making them look raw and painterly. This
is the first time we have had such an intimate view of Burtynsky’s working method.
